Molten chocolate cakes, to be exact... These cakes are way too yummy when I go out to eat, so I am finally trying my hand at making them myself... Wish me luck! Later days...
Don't know how vegetarians can do it... I'm about to eat some BBQ'd steak, and I am rather excited at the prospect!!! BTW... Sorry I've been so "quiet" lately -- just too busy/tired/medicated to care about keeping up with posts, I guess... ;-) ... Later days...
Well, snow was not exactly an accurate forecast... Ice would have been a bit more honest... The road was a nice sheet of ice this morning, but the road crews did an amazing job (once I got out of my own town, that is)... I was seriously considering calling in to work -- since the roads were yucky and I was tired... But then Boogie woke up at 5:45am and was really cranky... I figured I was doing myself a favor by going in to work! I ended up getting out early anyway, since I have a long day tomorrow (in at 9am and staying until my department meeting gets over at about 7pm)... It won't be too bad, though... Nice decided to order dinner for the meeting... A good touch, I think! (You know how I am with my food!)... Speaking of food... I better get going downstairs so I don't miss any pumpkin pie (or Heroes)... Later days...
I think it may actually be completely defrosted -- though I left it out overnight, which makes me a little nervous... Let's just hope it cooks in the amount of time they claim... I think it will take longer, so I am starting about an hour early, but my turkeys in the past have always taken longer than expected (probably because they were too frozen still)... Bah! Happy Turkey Day everyone! Later days...
So, our garden is growing out of control, and I couldn't be happier... Last night, we decided to round up all our green beans and to try making fried green beans like they have at TGI Fridays... Well, let me just say that they didn't quite taste the same, but I think they came out awesome! I rinsed the beans and snapped off the ends, shook them up in flour to dry the water, dipped them in egg, and then coated them with a 1/2 and 1/2 mixture of bread crumbs and crushed French's onions before frying them in canola oil... Awesome! I highly recommend trying this recipe... And for the dipping sauce, I think cucumber ranch comes frighteningly close to the "wasabi cucumber" dipping sauce at Friday's, though Clark disagrees... Whatever! Later days...
So, Nice and I brought our interns out to lunch yesterday... We went to the Honkey Bucket because we had gift certificates from the regional manager... They were these golden ticket looking things and they entitled us to a total of 4 free meals, drinks, and desserts... We showed them to the waitress at the beginning, just to make sure they would honor them, and then something magical happened... We got the best, most attentive service any of us have ever had in our lives... She must have stopped to check on us 10 times in that hour... Nice thought maybe the waitress was just that good, but I'm not buying it... I am sure it had something to do with those tickets -- and I am more than ok with that... They didn't need to know that we were "just the local children's librarians" who happened to be given an awesome gift when we were procuring prizes for kids in our SRP... Playing the part of "mysterious VIP" is quite fine with me! Later days...
So, tonight is the last program for my Young Adults at the library, and I am a little concerned about getting the estimate right... So far, I have been having an average of like 25 kids... Tonight is "Dinner & a Movie," though, so having a good estimate is slightly important... I can't just go and photocopy some more pizzas! I will be ordering 3 24-cuts, and I am just praying that it is enough for the ravenous YAs... Later days...
My OCD is getting the best of me this weekend... I cleaned out the fish tank last night, and now I am moving on to the kitchen... It's been a while since I did some thorough grocery shopping, so I want to know what I really need! Nothing worse (in the grocery shopping scheme of things) than getting home from the store and then realizing you have no bread or milk or whatever... Later days...
I can't believe it... MY son -- my little baby -- just ate TWO packets of oatmeal for breakfast! Granted, it was the fruit kind (which I have learned has less than the maple or cinnamon roll variety)... But still... TWO WHOLE PACKETS! And we're talking "scraped every last oat out of the bowl" finished... I am guessing that he's probably about to have another growth spurt; he has been eating like a mad man lately... Either that, or he has taken after his papa (my daddy) and has the "bottomless pit, but I'm still skinny" gene... Good for him! Teeheehee... Other than that, there's not much else to write about... I mean, I guess I could mention that one of Clark's coworkers gave him "the plague," and that I couldn't sleep last night because of Clark's coughing fits, so I may be volunteering to sleep on the sofa sleeper tonight... But that's about all I can piece together with my so-called brain this morning... Off to sit like a lump on the couch until I have to leave for lunch with Mommy Dearest... Joy! Later days...
So, after hearing that my cholesterol was too high, it took me a while
to resign myself to the fact that I needed to change my diet... I
started eating only healthy breakfasts (no more sugar-encrusted cereals
for me!), but that part was easy... I love oatmeal, and so does
Boogie! We now have oatmeal every morning, and it is fast,
simple, and tasty... Beyond that, though, there is the issue of
fast food when I am running late to work and snacks throughout the
day... The people at the library have always made me very happy
with their generosity -- bringing in doughnuts and cookies and such --
so it has been tough trying to stay away from the staff
kitchen... I recently took a trip to the grocery store and bought
some healthier snacks to keep at work... Carrots and dip, cheese
and crackers, juice instead of soda, etc... Last night, I noticed
that the mini-fridge in our office was freezing everything, regardless
of how many times I tried changing the dial setting, so I decided that
defrosting the fridge may help the thermostat work better... We
had never done it before, and we have had it about 2 years, so the
freezer was starting to get pretty caked up with ice... I moved
all of the stuff into the fridge next to the meeting room and turned
the mini-fridge off... This afternoon, I went to get my juice (to
have with my soup -- nice and healthy!) and found that EVERYTHING WAS
GONE... I was so mad! And, I felt bad because some of the
stuff was Goddess'... I actually, by chance, ended up speaking on
the phone with the president of the group that had used that meeting
room last night, and he knew nothing about the food... I believe
him, but I also wonder who the hell else could have gone in there and
taken it... That kitchen smells kinda funny, so I am wondering if
maybe the maintenance guy thought he was doing us a favor and "cleaned
out" the fridge -- though pretty much everything else is still in
there... Grrr... I went to the store tonight and replaced a
few things, but I am still a bit peeved... Whatever...
Guess I better stop stewing over something I cannot change... My
15 minutes is up, though, so I also better get back to work...
Later days...
